How long is the FE exam?

The FE Exam will have a total “seated time” of 6 hours long (exactly: 5 hours and 55 minutes). This consists of:

  1. reading and signing a nondisclosure agreement (2 minutes)
  2. tutorial covering how to use the on-screen exam features such as flagging and skipping questions (8 minutes)
  3. the actual exam time (5 hours and 20 minutes)
  4. optional break after completing the first section (25 minutes)

Before the exam: sign in, present valid ID, have your fingerprints digitally collected, and have your test day photo taken.

You will have 5 hours and 20 minutes to complete the 110 questions given in the first section and second section.

From the 5 hours and 20 minutes, you choose how long to spend on each section. Therefore, you must allocate enough time for the first and second section.

Tip: For the first section, avoid getting fixated on a problem. Simply flag the question and move on. Fixation and overthinking a problem will take away valuable time that you could use for reviewing the flagged questions at the end of the first section AND to give yourself enough time to complete the second section.
